Colour of My Soul is a body of abstract paintings that are visually passionate, emotionally striking and captivating in their execution. Inspired by her life and everyday experiences, this body of work offers a candid and revealing glimpse into Dusk’s soul. Inspiration is drawn from her life and day to day, which creates the compositional structure to each painting. Her feelings are expressed through her sensitively and thoughtfully selected colour palettes, which creates a provoking emotional charge in each painting.
Colour of My Soul is a body of work where Dusk reveals herself, luring the viewer to negotiate the simplicity of the inherent emotion within the complex, textured and layered visuality of each painting. Dusk’s strength as a painter is demonstrated by her controlled and careful execution.
Born in Swidnica, Poland, Renata Dusk is the youngest of three children raised by a single mother.
Escaping Poland to live in a refugee camp in Italy, Dusk immigrated to Canada in August of 1989.
She was educated in Poland and holds a Masters Degree from the Academy of Physical Education and Sports.
Her artist name, Dusk, is the English translation of her Polish name.
"Every day I see my life and thoughts spread on a canvas in my mind.
My paintings come to me effortlessly, unexpected and not planned.
I do not know ahead what is going to happen on the canvas, but I definitely know,
when the piece is finished as it is the interconnected part of my soul.
My feelings are the colours, my life and every day experiences are the inspiration.
I ponder that this journey will never end; the longer I paint the more inspired I am.
